Tamara Bishop Schwartz

President/CEO

Tamara is a native of Missouri and began working for her dad's medical laboratory business at an early age. By age 16, she was trained as a phlebotomist and was drawing blood in nursing homes, which continued during her college years. She attended Baylor University, obtaining a BA in Chemistry, then returned to St. Louis, married, and then joined the family business, BioTech Laboratory, full-time.

Tamara completed her MBA from Washington University in 1990, and helped the lab add both toxicology and water testing departments. It was in 1994 that her dad, Mel Bishop, was looking to add portable x-ray services for the lab's nursing home clients. Tamara, along with the lab's controller, Bill Hunt, agreed to take on the challenge of starting up this new operation, and BioTech X-ray, Inc. was formed.

Tamara continued to work for BioTech Lab while BioTech X-ray was in its infancy, and until 2010, two years after the lab sold to MedLab. Since 1998, Tamara has worked remotely from her home office, armed with a cell phone and Internet connection – first from northern Illinois, then from Minnesota since 2001. She makes routine monthly trips to the corporate office in St. Louis and has been a strong proponent of home-based offices for many years. In fact, she believes the success of the company is, in part, due to being a “decentralized” organization, hiring entrepreneurial spirited individuals who are encouraged to build up the business in their territories and who are compensated accordingly.

Tamara takes pleasure in being part of a business that provides needed medical services to seniors in the comfort of their familiar surroundings, at prices that are far less than hospital-based options for the same service. She truly enjoys her work and the excitement of being at the helm of a growing business.

Tamara currently serves as Treasurer of the National Association of Portable X-ray Providers. She has three children and has spent many hours on sidelines cheering them in their respective sports and musical activities, as well as serving on team booster clubs and boards, and as team mom. She has been active in her church throughout the years as well, serving in a variety of roles.

Tamara and her husband, Joe, also own and operate Dunn Bros Coffee shop in Excelsior, Minnesota, near Lake Minnetonka. They opened it three years ago and you will find them there on most weekend nights enjoying the live music at the shop and conversing with the coffee shop regulars. Tamara enjoys running a 10k every year in July and snow skiing in Utah with her family each winter. She enjoys entertaining and watching Cardinal and Twins Baseball and Baylor Basketball and Football.
